OWN & NAACP ELECTION TOWN HALL EVENTS
Oprah Winfrey and NAACP Join Together: “OWN Your Vote"
National town hall series across seven states
OWN Your Vote launched in 2020 to inspire and equip thousands of voters and community leaders with specific steps they can take to register to vote, request absentee ballots, and mobilize voters throughout their community.
Before the 2020 election, VIVA worked with the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) and the NAACP to produce four live town hall events in seven states. The campaign strategy was to create a nonpartisan, pro-social campaign of inspired action and events for and with African American women to recognize her power and move her to OWN HER VOTE and get to the polls.
Each live event was open to the public and captured the attention of thousands, encouraging them to vote. With VIVA’s production expertise, the webcasts seamlessly segued between Oprah and her guests, including: President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, NAACP leaders, and other prominent leaders and activists.

Outcome
- As a direct result of this campaign, more than 250,000 women engaged in conversations about the power of their vote.
- Black women showed up to the polls in record numbers, with the 2020 Presidential election having one of the highest voter turnout rates in history.
- OWN and national voting partners aim to build on the success of the previous campaign by informing voters of the massive importance of casting their ballot every year and owning their vote.Â
"OWN is proud to partner with the NAACP and prominent voting rights leaders to hold this important conversation to energize and engage our community to vote this November. This is a critical time in our history to come together and raise our voices."
